Shopping in Agra

Shopping in Agra The magnificent city of Agra not only offers architectural delights but is also reputed as a shopper's paradise. The city has a number of markets and shopping malls that offers the best of handcrafted item specially the replicas of Taj Mahal that match in every detail of the real building.

Agra is noted for its sweets and savories like petha and dal-moth. Agra is famous for its marble inlay work, leather goods, brasswares, finely worked precious and semi-precious stone jewellry and ornate zari embroidery.

Much of this is available around the Taj complex. The main shopping areas are the Sadar Bazar, Kinari Bazar and Munro Road.

State emporia Gangotri (UP Govt.), Kairali (Kerala), Black Partridge (Haryana) and Kashmir Government Arts Emporium are all located at the Taj Mahal Shopping Arcade, Western Gate.

Agra is also well known for its sweets 'petha' and 'Gazak' and saltish snack 'Dalmoth. The main shopping areas of the city are Sadar Bazar, Kinari Bazar, Raja-ki-Mandi, Sanjay Place and the Taj Mahal Complex.

Agra is also known for its fabulous handicrafts, made of marble and softstone inlay work. The Mughals were great patrons of arts and crafts.

Empress Nur Jahan took personal interest and was an accomplished artist herself in zari embroidery work. Agra's major handicraft products besides inlay work are : leatherware, brassware, carpets, jewellery and embroidery work.

Agra also offers a variety of leather items including footwear, purses, bags, and decorative items. You can also shop for sandal and rose wood items, brass and stone decorative, embroidered rugs, stone inlay work and floor carvings in the local Handicraft Emporium.

There are many shopping area across the city but the major areas include Taj Mahal complex, Kinari Bazaar, Raja Mandi, Sadar Bazaar.
